The Tyler County Commissioners Court assembled Friday, October 18, 2013 for their regular monthly meeting. Their agenda included monthly reports, a request from the Sheriff's office for a new cruiser, authorizing travel expenses, and design approval for Colmesneil's new Volunteer Fire Department (VFD) building.
In addition to the regular monthly reports and budget amendments, Jackie Skinner, Tyler County Auditor, requested and received approval for upcoming travel expenses for herself and one assistant to attend a Human Resource Conference in Austin.
Sheriff Bryan Weatherford received approval to purchase a 2013 Dodge Charger to add to his fleet of department vehicles. The purchase price of approximately $29,000 will includes the cruiser being equipped with cage, lights, and push bar. The Sheriff's department will also be transferring a 2002 Ford Van to Tyler County Search and Rescue.
Constable Dale Freeman, Precinct 1, delivered the Constables' quarterly report. Freeman reported an active quarter with 110 papers served, $8,800 in fees collected, and 8300 miles logged by the County's four constables.
Commissioner Martin Nash requested the Court waive a monthly rental fee for office space currently utilized by the Jasper/Newton County Public Health District organization. The group has experienced a financial set back and only uses the space a few times a month. The Court approved the waiver.
The Court approved Commissioner Mike Marshall's request to apply for a 2014 Airport Maintenance Program Grant with the Texas Department of Transportation Aviation Department. The yearly 50/50 grant can be applied to routine maintenance projects with the County responsible for 50 percent of the cost and the State responsible for 50 percent. Marshall presented the plans for Colmesneil's new VFD building for final approval. The Court approved the plans and his request to begin the bidding process for the future construction of the building.
The County's offices will be closed November 11 in observation of Veteran's Day. The Court will convene on Friday, November 15 at 8:30 a.m. for their regular monthly meeting.
