Hidden in plain sight: Tyler County Collection Center

Tyler County Collection Center, located off Highway 190 near Hennigan Park, may possibly be one of the cleanest and best smelling trash collection centers in the area.

Supervisor Richard Shaw, Assistant Supervisor David Fowler and employee Robert Banner work long hours to keep the Collection center clean and free of trash so that Tyler County citizens can enjoy an extremely clean and inviting trash collection center.

The collection center, which began operation in 1995, is a great resource for people who need to dispose of large amounts of scrap or household garbage. Many people don't want to pay for a truck to come to their home and collect trash, and the Tyler County Collection center is an affordable solution to that. Large pieces of metal and steel are also accepted, and during the month of March and the first week of April each year, metal products can be dropped off for free.

Small bags cost $1.25 to drop off and large contractor bags cost $2. The Tyler County Collection Center is open Monday through Wednesday, 7 a.m. through 4:30 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

"We strive to please our customers and keep a nice, clean environment here," says supervisor Richard Shaw, "Many people are surprised at how clean it is, and some people have brought their cameras to take pictures."

The Tyler County Collection Center gets multiple mopping and sweepings daily, and Shaw often cleans relentlessly when there is a spill or other kinds of trash left at the collection center.

The Collection Center also has two large trash compactors that are cleaned out weekly to ensure that the center doesn't become overwhelmingly smelly.

"Not many people know about the Tyler County Collection center because we are located in a bit of a remote location, but we are here to serve the community the best that we can for as long as we can," says Shaw.

To get to the Tyler County Collection Center, turn off Highway 190 near Hennigan Baseball Park, and turn right at the Collection Center sign.
