Peggy Burton, a long time Woodville resident, was honored at the Commissioner's Court meeting in October for her dedication and commitment to volunteer service in the community. Burton is gifted with a heart for serving others, and her life has been organized around that principle; there is work to be done and she has been and continues to be doing it! In addition to the ceremony at Commissioner's Court, Peggy was honored at a reception at Allan Shiver's Library, given by the Allan Shivers Library Board and Friends of the Library. The event was attended by many well-wishers, friends and son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Pam Burton.
Peggy has served for decades on the library's Board of Directors, many of those as President of the Board. Her wisdom, her great sense of humor, her determination to see that the the citizens of Tyler County, especially children, have a library that is second to none has resulted in a quality program unsurpassed in towns many times larger than Woodville. She has been an inspiration to continuing efforts throughout many years, to provide the circulation of a variety of types quality materials, including media (audio books and visually and hearing impaired materials, VHS and DVD), an inviting environment and accessibility for all ages, and a technically advanced computer and cataloging system. Additionally, she has been a continuing source of support to the many librarians and staff members who have been a part of the Allan Shivers Library as her cheerful support and willingness to work to achieve common goals has never waivered.
