Colmesneil City Council held its' regular monthly meeting August 14 at 7 p.m. Prior to the regular meeting, a 6 p.m. public hearing was held to receive public comments regarding the 2013-2014 TxCDBGB grant.
Council discussed a proposition concerning salt-water disposal wells, bringing up several concerns including truck traffic, noise, and long-term sink holes. No action was taken, however, Mayor Baird requested an ordinance banning salt-water disposal wells within city limits to be put together and reviewed at the next regular meeting in September.
Baird opened discussion regarding having Well #2 TV'ed. Utility director Keith Barnes explained that one of the proposed projects for the upcoming grant cycle is to recondition the well. However, due to the well's age, he suggested that the city have cameras run down the well to determine the condition prior to deciding if rehab is needed. The Council approved the camera request.
Mic Cowart presented to the Council on behalf of Entergy. He gave a PowerPoint presentation explaining new customer service initiatives (Save Me Money and Keep Me Informed) which evolved from customer focus groups.
In other business, Councilman Davis commented on the city streets being mowed and thanked the workers. Mayor Baird also stated that the city received the $275,000 award letter for the 2011-2012 TxCDBG grant for street improvement.
