Eagles/Lady Eagles Track earn trip to Regionals

The Woodville Eagles and Lady Eagles traveled to Newton on April 9 and 11 for the 22AA District Meet. The Eagles scored 117 points, which earned them the district's runner-up title, behind first place Newton's 164 points. Other schools participating included Corrigan-Camden 113, San Augustine 102, Hemphill 69, Central Heights 24, and Woden 18. The JV Eagles won district with 144 points. The Lady Eagles also placed second with 112 points behind district champion San Augustine Wolves' 151 points. Newton was third with 109, followed by Corrigan's 101. Rounding off the district was Hemphill with 75, Central Heights 56 and Wooden with 1. These athletes placed in the top 3 and will advance to Regionals. Marcus Harrison 1st place shot put 46'8", Cody Mitchell 3rd place shot put 41'7", Tyler Skinner 2nd place discus 118', Rachaud Mitchell 2nd place high jump 5'10"and mile relay, TC Mitchell 3rd place high jump 5'10", Derrick Daffron 1st place pole vault 10' 6", Phillip Noble 3rd place triple jump 42'4", 1st place 110m hurdles 15.9 sec., 2nd place 300m hurdles 41.9 sec. and 1600m relay, Charles Fentress 400m dash 52.3 sec. and mile relay, and joining Mitchell, Noble, and Fentress in the mile relay is Sana Moran with a time of 3:30 for 3rd place. Coach Scott Holloway was very pleased with the effort of the entire team.

The Lady Eagles will have a good showing at regionals with Hannah Shows placing 3rd in high jump at 4'9", 3rd place Audrey Brookshire in the 3200 and 1600 with times of 14:14 and 6:19 respectively, T'Kenah Barlow 3rd place long jump at 15'7", 2nd place 100m dash 13.71,and 1600m relay, Shanequia Barlow 1st place 400m 1:00.3, 1st place 200m 26.63 and 2nd place 1600m relay, Jackeia Collins 3rd place 300 hurdles 51.9 and mile relay, Julisa Williams 1st place shot put 39'5", 3rd place Jasmine Spears 36'10.25" shot put, and joining Barlow, Collins and Barlow in the 2nd place mile relay is Hallie Beaty with a time of 50.87. Coach Phillip Scoggins likes his chances at regionals and advancing to state. The Eagle and Lady Eagle qualifiers will compete Thursday, April 19, at Corrigan before heading to Whitehouse, Texas, April 27-28 for regionals.

The Lady Eagle Golf team won district on April 10 at Woodland Hills in Nacogdoches, while Chase Hensarling earned a berth to regionals as a medalist. Girls' softball will be looking to bounce back after a 4-3 loss to Central Heights Friday in extra innings, while baseball will close out their district schedule Friday, April 20 at San Augustine.
