Girls Basketball - Coming off a win against Anahuac on Tuesday, the Warren Lady Warriors welcomed Kountze to town on Friday for a district matchup.

The game started out slow with only 11 points each scored by each team at the half. Sophomore Hallie Nevins scored all five first quarter points on her way to a season high 15.

The second quarter featured Elizabeth Clymer with four blocks and a bucket to keep the Lionettes in check. Lex Kerr added two free throws and Nevins a bucket before the half to tie the score at 11.

Nevins started the third quarter with three points and Brennah Buckner added a free throw before Kountze went on a 9-1 run. Erin Foster had a bucket and one at the end of the quarter to bring Warren within four at 22-18.

Just like the other three quarters, Nevins started the scoring in the fourth with a three to bring Warren within one at 22-21. Kountze took advantage of a couple of turnovers by Warren, going on a 5-0 run to push the score up 27-21. Clymer then had back-to-back blocked shots (seven for the game) as Foster added a couple of baskets and Buckner a free throw to bring the Lady Warrens back to within one point at 27-26.

Down 29-28 after a layup by Nevins with one minute remaining in regulation, Kountze was fouled but could not convert at the line. The Lady Warriors then brought the ball down the court and missed the shot, but Clymer was there with the rebound and put back for two, giving Warren a 30-29 lead with 28 seconds to play.

With 15 seconds remaining Laikyn Bell stole the ball, feeding it to Buckner who was fouled. Buckner sank one at the foul line to take a 31-29 lead. Kountze had one shot left but was blocked by Nevins to secure the win.

The wins last week give Warren a 3-2 district record.

Next up, the JV and varsity will play at home against Kirbyville on Friday, January 13, and then travel to Buna on Tuesday, January 17. Games start at 5 p.m.

Boys Basketball – The Warriors basketball team had a tough week last week, falling to Anahuac and Kountze. Their schedule is the same as the girls schedule above.
