The Woodville Lady Eagles fell short to the Salado Lady Eagles last week to end their successful season. Woodville finished the year 29-6 and ranked seventh in the state of Texas. The Lady Eagles reached the regional semi-finals.
Game one opened with Salado taking the early 1-0 in the top of the first inning on Thursday. Woodville would take the 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Ashton Weatherford opened the inning with a single to shortstop. Weatherford advanced to second base on Faith Sirmons ground out to third base. Tamara White singled to centerfield putting runners on the corners with one out. Weatherford and White scored on Morgan Poncho's RBI single to left field.
Neither team could scratch a run in the second or third innings. Salado tied the game 2-2 in the top of the fourth inning. Woodville responded scoring a run on Kenzie Magallion's homerun in the bottom of the fourth inning regaining the one run lead.
This would be the last lead Woodville would see as Salado scored eight runs in the next two innings taking the 10-3 win. Woodville scored three runs on six hits and committed five errors. Salado scored 10 runs on nine hits committing no errors. Shelby Mixon pitched a complete game. She pitched seven innings, giving up five earned runs, striking out eight and walking one.
Game two was also played in College Station on Saturday. Game two opened with a pitching duel. Both teams were scoreless until Salado scored a run in the bottom of the fourth inning. Salado added two more runs in the sixth inning for all the runs in the game. Mixon pitched six innings giving up zero earned runs, four hits, four walks, and seven strikeouts. Weatherford and Magallion each hit safely in the game.
