The Chester Yellowjackets dropped a 5-3 decision to San Augustine on Monday. This was their second showing against the Wolves in less than a week. The Jackets jumped to an early lead in the first inning when Kris Kuehn scored on a third base error. Keaton Whitworth was right behind ready to score, but a ground out to the pitcher ended his scoring threat. Several Yellowjacket errors allowed the Wolves to score one run in the second inning and three runs in the third. The Jackets began their comeback in the third inning with a sacrifice fly out by Levi Watts to plate Cord Neal and an RBI double by Colten Martin in the fourth inning to score Whitworth. A fifth inning third out left two Yellowjacket runners on base to end the Jackets' gritty efforts to take control of the game. Kuehn took the loss for the Jackets. He pitched six innings and allowed one earned run, four hits and three walks while striking out 15.
The Yellowjackets took a 9-1 loss against Broaddus on Friday. Neal led the Jackets on the mound. Neal allowed one hit, one earned run, walked three and struck out 12 during his six innings of work. Numerous fielding errors and lack of hits led to the Yellowjackets' loss.
The Lady Jackets downed Broaddus 7-2 Friday evening at Chester. Timber Wright had an amazing at bat in the fourth inning, where she worked a walk after seeing about ten pitches. Wright made the run to first, then Destiny Kuehn stole third base. A bad throw to third allowed Kuehn to go home, while Wright advanced to second. Then an over throw to second from third went into right field and Wright advanced to third and took a big turn to force the right fielder to make the throw in. Wright then made the decision to go for home. The ball came in high at home plate and the catcher was late on the tag, which turned a walk into a home run. Pitchers for the Lady Jackets were Donna Martin with four strikeouts and Kuehn with three strikeouts. Kuehn went 2-4 with one triple and two runs, Wright went 0-1 with two walks, one home run, one RBI and one sacrifice fly, Laken Read went 2-3 with one double and one RBI. "We were very disciplined at the plate and worked hard to get nine walks, and unfortunately we hit the ball right at them a few times. We left runners on base five out of six innings, which is always disappointing, but we did a better job of seeing the ball and hitting the ball. I was happy with our fielding. That was the best that we have looked fielding the ball in a long time, maybe all year. This was a good win for our ladies and they should be proud of their efforts," said Coach Fudge.
The Lady Jackets and Yellowjackets face Colmesneil at home on Friday, April 11 and Brookeland on Tuesday, April 15. The Lady Jackets will travel to Brookeland, while the Yellowjackets will play at home.
