Chester Yellowjackets defeat Burkeville

The Chester Yellowjackets pounded the Burkeville Mustangs on Tuesday, March 25 in seven innings. In the bottom of the first, the Yellowjackets grabbed the early lead, 1-0 with a run scored by Levi Watts. The Mustangs came back in the third to score three runs on a Yellowjacket error.

Chester Yellowjackets' rally started when Keaton Whitworth grabbed an RBI single to plate Watts. Whitworth scored on stolen bases and a wild pitch to tie the score 3-3.The score held tight through the fourth inning. The Jackets took back the lead in the fifth when Kris Kuehn and Whitworth both scored on Mustang fielding errors. The Yellowjackets scored four runs in the sixth on an RBI triple by Kuehn, an RBI double by Whitworth, an RBI single by Colten Martin to plate Cord Neal, Watts, Kuehn and Whitworth. Martin stole home on a wild pitch. Chester Yellowjackets' Whitworth, Kuehn, Watts and Martin combined for six hits, four RBIs and nine runs. Kuehn got the win for the Yellowjackets. He allowed three runs over six innings. He struck out 11, walked two and surrendered no hits. Closer Neal put away the final three outs to record the save. The Yellowjackets took the win 10-3.

Yellowjackets vs. San Augustine
The Yellowjackets won the hit battle 11-5 on Friday against San Augustine. The Jackets just couldn't push enough runs across to get the win. The Jackets fell 7-5 in seven innings. The top of the first saw Chester Yellowjackets take an early lead, 2-0. A double by Kuehn, scoring Watts started the inning off. An RBI single by Whitworth plated Kuehn. Whitworth scored in the fourth inning and an RBI single by John Proctor plated Whitworth in the fifth inning to help the Yellowjackets close their deficit to 5-4. A strike out would end the Jackets' threat. An RBI triple by Kuehn gave the Chester Yellowjackets life, but a ground out would close the sixth inning.

Whitworth reached base three times. He scored two runs and had one RBI. Watts reached base three times and scored two runs, Kuehn took five bases, scored one run and had two RBIs, Martin and Proctor each had one RBI and one base. Neal took the loss for the Chester Yellowjackets. He allowed seven runs in six innings, walked three and struck out 14.

Softball
The Lady Jackets had another easy win against the Burkeville Lady Mustangs on Tuesday, March 24. They took control offensively and defensively and never let up. They were very strong on their at bat as well as with their playing in the field. They Lady Jackets started the game off with a "three-up, three-down" inning, continuing well in the batter's box. This was mostly an in fielding defense game. The Lady Jackets did a great job not letting the Lady Mustangs get on base get on base. Timber Wright and Kyrstin Jobe were a great combination on the mound and behind the plate. Wright ended the game with seven strike outs, and Jobe had a throw out at second and two bunt retrieved throw-outs at first. Jaci Davis and Destiny Kuehn had great at bat for a combined 12 bases and three RBI's. Heather Choate on second base and Tyra Adair on first base both had a very strong defensive game with no passed balls, and ready for anything. Laken Read, Alexis Washington, and Kalee Thomson had a good offensive and defensive game. The Lady Jackets closed the game in the fourth inning defeating the Lady Mustangs 11-0.

The Lady Jackets dropped an 11-1 decision to Big Sandy Friday, March 28.

The Yellowjackets and Lady Jackets face Broaddus at home on Tuesday, April 4. The Yellowjackets have a 4:00 p.m. start time and the Lady Jackets have a 5:00 p.m. start time.
