The Chester Yellowjackets battled the Brookeland Wildcats in an extra inning on Tuesday, March 18. The Yellowjackets jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the second. Keaton Whitworth started the fire for the Yellowjackets with a single to short stop followed by a stolen base. John Proctor added an RBI double, which brought in Whitworth for the first run of the game. The Brookeland Wildcats answered the Yellowjackets' run with one run of their own in the bottom of the second. The Jackets managed a comeback in the top of the third inning. Levi Watts and Kris Kuehn both hit singles and each stole a base. Whitworth hit an RBI double to plate both Watts and Kuehn. The Jackets held the Wildcats to a 3-1 game until the bottom of the sixth. The Wildcats scored one run in the sixth inning and one run in the seventh to tie the game. This sent the game into an extra inning. Kuehn, Whitworth, Proctor and Colten Martin all singled and stole bases to score for the Jackets. The Yellowjackets held the Wildcats for a 7-3 victory. Whitworth racked up two RBIs on three hits and two runs, Kuehn had three hits and two runs, Proctor had two hits, one RBI and one run, Clay Thomson had two hits and one RBI, Martin had one hit and one run, and Watts had two hits and one run. Kuehn got the win for Chester. He allowed two runs over five innings. He struck out eight, walked one and surrendered 11 hits. Closer Neal put away the final nine outs to record the save.
The Yellowjackets lost 10-3 to Zavalla at Zavalla on Friday, March 21. The Yellowjackets took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Whitworth doubled, scoring Kuehn, and then the Jackets tacked on another run when Whitworth scored on an RBI single by Proctor. The third inning brought in the final run for the Yellowjackets. The Yellowjackets were unable to make a comeback and took a hard fall to the Eagles.
Lady Jacket Softball
The Lady Jacket softball team dropped an 8-2 decision to the Brookeland Lady Wildcats and fell 15-0 to the Zavalla Lady Eagles this past week. Timber Wright, Kyrstin Jobe, Tyra Adair, Jaci Davis, Alexis Washington, and Destiny Kuehn each had one hit, while Heather Choate and Kalee Thomson each had two hits and one run.
The Lady Jackets and Yellowjackets will travel to Big Sandy on Friday, March 28. The Yellowjackets will travel to San Augustine on Friday, March 28 and will host San Augustine on Saturday, March 29 at 2:00pm. Both Teams will host Broaddus on Tuesday, April 4.
