On Friday, March 14, Woodville high school hosted a tennis tournament in which Spurger participated. Spurger's mixed doubles brought home a medal as well as high hopes for the future district tournament.
Brittany and Nathaniel Lane played together for their first time together as a mixed doubles team. The duo played two games. Although the first match did not end in their advantage, with a score of 1-8, they did not let it set them back for the next match. During the second match, for third place, they won the first set 6-1 then took it home when they finished the second set 6-4. Spurger's tennis coach, Coach Fountain, stated, "If they practice and work together like they did during the tournament, they could have good chances to win district in the mixed doubles category."
Tennis has a few more upcoming practice tournaments before district. Baseball will have their next game March 21 in Spurger against Big Sandy. On March 25 they will be in Sabine Pass. The Lady Pirate softball will play at Sabine Pass March 21 then in High Island on March 25. All games will begin at 4:30.
