The Woodville Lady Eagles blew out Jasper 8-1 on Saturday after pouring on five runs in the fifth inning. Pitcher Shelby Mixon was in control of the rubber. Jasper managed just one hit off of Mixon, who allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out three in her five innings of work. Avery Tolar had the hot bat for the Lady Eagles. Tolar went 2-3 and scored two runs.
In the first inning, neither Woodville nor Jasper could score evening the game at 0-0. The Lady Bulldogs jumped on the scoreboard first scoring an unearned run on the top of the second inning. Woodville answered with two runs in the bottom of the second inning. Mixon reached on an error by Jasper's shortstop with no outs. Lindsey Clow came in as a courtesy runner for Mixon. Clow scored on a hard hit triple to left field by Faith Sirmons with one out. Sirmons scored on a line drive single to left field by Katelyn Watts.
The Lady Eagle would get an insurance run in the third inning. Tolar started the inning with a single to shortstop. Tolar stole second base and advanced to third base on a passed ball. Tolar came around to score on a wild pitch to increase the lead to 3-1.
Neither team was able to produce a score in the fourth inning. Woodville broke the game open in the fifth inning. Tolar opened the inning on a single to shortstop. Tolar advanced to second and third on a stolen base and a wild pitch. Tolar scored a double to right field by Kenzie Magallion. Mallory Watts walked putting runners on first and second base with no outs. Mixon reached on a hard shot to shortstop. Magallion scored Watts advanced to second. Mica Maxwell singled to center field to load the bases. Woodville scored two runs on an error by Jasper increasing the lead to 7-1. Maxwell scored the final run on Ashton Weatherford's ground ball.
Woodville scored eight runs on seven hits and walked five times in the Championship Game of the Woodville Tournament.
The Boys earned second place in the Woodville tournament by going 3-1 in the tournament. Woodville defeated Huntington 6-1, Kountze 8-5, Quitman 3-0, and lost to Buna 2-1. The Eagles will play in the Colmesneil Tournament Thursday thru Saturday.
The high school track teams will travel to Groveton this week. The middle school boys and girls track meet in Huntington was cancelled due to the weather. Woodville Middle School will host their invitational meet Monday starting at 3:30.
