With basketball over, after the loss of the playoff game, Spurger is now ready to kick off their spring sports. Spurger's softball and baseball teams are beginning to break out the balls and bats, and the tennis and track teams to ready to begin as well. Although it is over, Spurger basketball all-district awards have been awarded to some of the players. Spurger basketball, from junior high to high school had an exceptional year, and these awards are reflections of some of the hard work exerted.

The varsity boys kept the tradition going on by making playoffs again for their 2013-2014 basketball season, in the third place spot. Although all of the boys expressed heart and hustle, four of them rose to the top when compared alongside other district opponents. Senior, Dave Pilgreen was awarded first team all-district. Another senior, Cody Winkle received second team all-district. Junior, Nathan Sheffield achieved first team all-district, as well as earning offensive MVP of the district. Freshmen, Caleb Winkle took home the honor of first team all-district, as well as new comer of the year in the district.

The varsity girls had a good year of rebuilding with such a young team. Two of the girls who played as role players for the Lady Pirates both achieved district honors. Senior, Emilee Shumake received first team all-district. Sophomore, Karley Wood was awarded second team all-district.
Junior high basketball does not receive district awards, but they also had a successful season. The girl's team came away with more wins than losses overall. The girls learned and grew quickly throughout the season. The junior high boy's team was one game away from a perfect season. The boys were undefeated, until they lost in a tournament, which the game went into overtime and they lost by one point. The baseball and softball players both are looking forward to their upcoming games. The baseball boys will be playing March 11 in Spurger against the Evadale Rebels at 4:30 p.m. Lady Pirate's softball will be participating in the Evadale tournament on March 6-8. They will also be playing March 11 in Spurger against West Hardin at 4:30 p.m.
