The Chester Lady Jackets and Yellowjackets both saw tournament action this past weekend. The Lady Jackets played six games in the Trinity tournament. The Lady Jackets fell to Mexia 6–4, New Waverly 7-4, Big Sandy 3-0, Mexia 10-7, Trinity 13- 2, and New Waverly 14–4. Throughout the tournament, Timber Wright had five hits and three stolen bases, Destiny Kuehn six hits and three stolen bases, Donna Martin three hits and three stolen bases, Kyrstin two hits and two stolen bases, Kalee Thomson one hit and one stolen base. Alexis Washington finished with two hits and Tyra Adair and Heather Choate each had one hit. "The girls played well, especially considering that we have had two practices since basketball ended. We left a lot of runners on base, but the good news is that everyone made contact with the ball. We are all very excited about the beginning of the softball season and we have high hopes," said Coach Chris Fudge.
The Yellowjackets played three games in the Alto tournament. They lost to Alto 6-5, Timpson 8-2, and tied with Cayuga 3-3. The time limit on these games proved to be a disadvantage for the Jackets. Pitching for the Yellowjackets were Kris Kuehn, Keaton Whitworth and Cord Neal. The Yellowjackets played three good games. They were able to field the ball well and put the bat on the ball to score several runs.
The Lady Jackets will play in the Woodville tournament, February 27-March 1 and the Yellowjackets will play in the Big Sandy tournament, February 27-March 1.
The Chester fishing team will fish another Rayburn tournament on March 1.
