The Chester Lady Jackets faced the Kennard Lady Tigers in the first game of the basketball play-offs. There was a lot of anxiety going into this game due to the loss of two key players. The Lady Jackets knew this would be a tough win. As the whistle blew and the ball went up, the Lady Tigers were there to receive the jump ball. The Lady Jackets jumped right into their game and fought for every bucket. The first period ended with the them down by five points.
The Lady Jackets were fired up in the second period and continued to play their game. The Lady Tigers were not expecting this kind of play, which allowed the Lady Jackets to come back with a run before the end of the half putting the Lady Jackets on top 16-14. With a deeper bench than Chester, Kennard was able to sub in players at regular intervals. This allowed the Lady Tigers to keep tremendous pressure on the Lady Jackets. The Lady Tigers played a tough man on man defense that the Lady Jackets just could not compete with. The Lady Jackets never gave up and played their hearts out for their coach, team mates and the many fans in the crowd, but it just wasn't enough to win the game.
The final score was 36-23 in favor of the Kennard Lady Tigers. "The girls had a great year. As a team, we are light years from where we started the season. With Adair, Jobe and Wright graduating, we will be left with a huge hole to fill, but we have four girls returning that saw a lot of playing time. Our captains were the nucleus of our team and quite honestly the reason I came to Chester to coach. I saw so much opportunity with that group and they came through for me. It is an honor to have been able to coach them. But as for our girls that are returning, I look for even bigger things from them in the future. They have grown so much and have a lot of potential to take us far," said Coach Hall.
The Lady Jacket softball team will play in the Trinity tournament February 20-22. The Yellowjacket baseball team will play in the Alto tournament February 20-22.
