On Friday, January 31, the JV and varsity Warriors and the JV andLady Warriors played Hemphill at home. All of the Warrior basketball teams earned a victory. The JV Warriors defeated the Hornets 53-35. The JV Lady Warriors won their game 26-21. The varsity Warriors dominated Hemphill 50-29. The varsity Lady Warriors played a close game and were able to win 33-32.
In the first quarter of the varsity Lady Warriors' game Warren started off with a great amount of hustle and hard work defensively. Bergandie Conner was quick to get a steal for the Lady Warriors as was Ashlynn Whisneant. Devan Barnett made an excellent drive to the goal and scored the first points for the Lady Warriors. Conner continued to play hard on defense as she stole the ball two more times. Lauren Foster then made both of her free throws. Warren was now only behind by one point 5-4.
Foster fought for an offensive rebound and then was fouled. Foster made another free throw for the Lady Warriors and the score was now 7-5. Foster then hustled on defense and earned a steal for Warren. Foster made yet another free throw. Conner then worked hard for another steal. At the end of the second quarter the Lady Warriors were still trailing 10-6. In the second quarter ,Warren continued to play excellent defense as Foster stole the ball. Barnett made two free throws for the Lady Warriors. Molly Applewhite scored, as did Barnett again. Whisneant played great defense and stole the ball. Barnett made two more free throws which tied the game 14-14. Barnett also worked hard defensively as she stole the ball. Barnett then got an offensive rebound which lead to her scoring again for the Lady Warriors.
Warren took over the lead 16-15. Foster stole the ball and was able to score. Autumn Sims scored a three pointer for the Lady Warriors which extended their lead 23-20. Chelsea Gordon also pitched in with good defense. Early in the third quarter Conner had yet another steal. The Lady Warriors worked together well offensively and showed great ball movement which lead to Conner scoring back to back. The score was now 27-20. Whisneant helped Warren on defense by taking a charge. Hemphill tied the game up at the end of the third quarter 27-27.
In the fourth quarter Hemphill continued to score, but Foster ended their scoring streak as she scored for the Lady Warriors. Barnett drove to the goal and was fouled. Barnett then made both of her free throws which made the Lady Warriors behind by only one point 32-31. Whisneant then played tough defense and stole the ball. Barnett made an excellent pass to Foster who then scored, which gave the Lady Warriors the lead by one point. The Lady Warriors defeated Hemphill through a great game 33-32.
The JV and varsity Warriors will travel to Kirbyville on Friday, February 7. The Warriors will play their last district home game of the season on Tuesday, February 11, against Woodville.
