On Tuesday January 21, both the JV and varsity Warriors and Lady Warrior basketball teams fought the Corrigan Bulldogs. The JV Lady Warriors played a close game and were able to beat Corrigan 44-40. The JV Warriors played an intense game as well and defeated Corrigan 47-43. The varsity Lady Warriors fought to take the lead against the Lady Bulldogs. Although the Lady Warriors put forth a great amount of effort, Corrigan won 40-30. The varsity Warriors played yet another excellent game and defeated the Bulldogs 63-50.
The Warriors were quick to score the first points as Cody Hammonds made both of his free throws. Brandon Choate then scored a three pointer, giving the Warriors a 5-0 lead. Hammonds made a shot while being fouled, and made the extra free throw. Warren was leading 8-2. Skylar Maass scored for the Warriors. Hammonds had an offensive rebound and then was able to pass to Choate who scored. At the end of the first quarter the Bulldogs had taken over the lead 15-12. Early in the second quarter, Mark Blackshear scored a three pointer, tying the score up at 15-15. Tanner Maass also scored a three pointer which gave the Warriors a one point lead 18-17. Connor Fry also scored another three pointer for Warren. The score was tied at 21-21. Hammonds was fouled when he shot the ball after getting an offensive rebound. Hammonds contributed to the score with one free throw. Skylar Maass made both of his free throws at the end of the second quarter. The Warriors ended the first half of the game behind 30-24. In the fourth quarter the Warriors were determined to take over the lead. Skylar Maass scored the first basket of the quarter. Skylar Maass then had a three point play as he made his shot, drew a foul, and made his free throw. The score was now 32-29, Warren was still behind. Skylar Maass scored again which allowed the Warriors to take the lead by one point. Hammonds then had an excellent play as he stole the ball on defense, scored as he drew a foul, and made his free throw. This increased the Warriors lead 34-32. Choate also helped to extend the lead by scoring. Corrigan received a technical foul which allowed Jimmy Adams to make a free throw for Warren. Skylar Maass scored a three pointer and Choate scored again. The Warriors successfully took over the lead and were winning 42-36 at the end of the third quarter. Marshall Odom had an offensive rebound and then scored and then Fry had a steal for the Warriors. Tanner Maass scored, making the score 46-38. Blackshear contributed to the score by making a free throw. Hammonds scored back to back points for the Warriors, increasing the lead 51-42. Hammonds then scored again after the Bulldogs scored. Skylar Maass also scored back to back points, this extended Warren's lead to 57-45. Hammonds made two free throws for the Warriors. Blackshear also made two more free throws. Hammonds ended the game by scoring two more free throws. The Warriors defeated the Bulldogs 63-50.
The JV and varsity Warrior and the JV and Lady Warriors will play against Hemphill, at home on Friday, January 31. This will be the Lady Warriors last home game of the season. The teams will travel to Deweyville on Tuesday, February 4. This will be the Lady Warriors last district basketball game.
