On Friday, January 3, the varsity Lady Warrior basketball team played Newton at home. The Lady Warriors played an excellent game and displayed an incredible amount of hustle. The Lady Warriors dominated Newton and won their first district game 40-22. The JV Warrior basketball team also took on Newton. The Warriors fought hard throughout the game, but were unable to defeat Newton and lost. The varsity Warriors fought Newton as well. Warren played a great game, but lost 48-31.
In the first quarter of the varsity Warriors game the starters were Conner Fry, Skylar Maass, Marshal Odom, Mark Blackshear, and Brandon Choate. Maass quickly earned the first steal of the game as he played tough defense. Fry had an offensive rebound for the Warriors. Maass scored a three pointer, making the score 4-3, Warren was behind by just one point. The Warriors ended the first quarter with excellent defense and Warren was now trailing 6-3. In the second quarter Blackshear made both of his free throws for the Warriors and boosted their score to 8-5. Blackshear then hustled on defense and managed to steal the ball. Choate also played well defensively and stole the ball from Newton. Once Choate stole the ball, he then scored for the Warriors, Warren was still behind 14-7. Odom had an offensive rebound for the Warriors. William Pelt was able to score for the Warriors, bringing the score to 19-9. The Warriors ended the first half of the game behind 22-9. In the third quarter Maass continued Warrens successful defense as he stole the ball. Fry contributed by making a free throw, increasing the score 24-10. Tanner Maass scored a three pointer for the Warriors. Jimmy Adams had an offensive rebound, keeping the ball in the Warriors possession. Maass had yet another steal for Warren. Maass increased the score to 30-14 by making a free throw. The Warriors ended the third quarter, still trailing 35-14. In the fourth quarter Maass scored a three pointer, making the score 35-17. Adams contributed to the score by making both of his free throws. Maass played excellent defense as he stole the ball yet again. Maass then passed the ball to Tanner Maass who scored and increased the score to 39-21. Choate hustled on defense as well and stole the ball from Newton. Maass made one free throw for Warren, and then scored again. The Warriors were now behind 41-24. Adams also scored and increased the score. Maass made two more free throws, and Adams scored yet again. The Warriors were now behind 48-30. Maass scored one more free throw and Warren ended the final quarter, unable to catch up, 48-31.
On Friday, January 10, both the JV and varsity Lady Warriors and Warriors will take on the Deweyville Pirates at home. On Tuesday, January 14, both the JV and varsity Lady Warriors and Warriors will play Kirbyville at home. On January 16, the junior high Warrior basketball teams will travel to Corrigan. The junior high Lady Warrior basketball teams will play Corrigan at home.
