Lady Jacket Basketball
Laken Reed scored 13 points to help the Chester Lady Jackets take a 39-32 win over the Centerville Lady Bulldogs in non-district action here Tuesday night. From the beginning, the Lady Jackets knew it would not be an easy game, but with nonstop hustle they were able to close the half with a 15-11 lead over the Lady Dogs. The Lady Jackets came into the third quarter prepared for their opponent to try and make a strong come back, but they held their footing with strong defensive efforts and offensive strategies to keep the game in their favor. Laken Reed's rebounding and toughness under the basket gave the Lady Jackets the spark that was needed in the second half to put the game away. Scorers for the Lady Jackets were: Laken Read with 13 points, Kyrstin Jobe with 10 Points, Timber Wright and Destiny Kuehn with 6 points and Tyra Adair with 4 points.
The Chester Yellowjackets dropped a 44-30 decision to Centerville on Tuesday night. The Yellowjackets played a tough game, but were unable to close the point spread and were down 29-15 at the close of the half. The Yellowjackets had a fourth quarter surge to gain 11 points to Centerville's five.
Unfortunately the fourth quarter spark was not enough to push the game in their favor. Scorers for the Yellowjackets were: Cord Neal with 17 points, Carlos Berry with 8 points, Kris Kuehn with three points, and J.J. Cowan with two points.
