Football All-District Awards
The Colmesneil football team's season ended on November 22 when they fell to the West Sabine Tigers in the Area-round of playoffs. It was a hard fought game, but the boys could not contain their opponents. "The better team won, plain and simple. Our kids played hard, but we were beat up and the injury bug hit us at the wrong time," said Coach Fancy Johnson. The team played an incredible 10-2 season that will never be forgotten. "These boys gave this community something to be proud of and nothing can take that away," said Johnson. "This season has been very special to me and these kids. They truly know the meaning of being part of something that's bigger than themselves. When you have and understand that feeling you will be successful on and off the field." The Bulldogs received many awards following their closing game; Offensive MVP: Cody Walsh; New Comer of the Year: Kaleb Lindsey; 1st Team Offense: Matt Bailey, Chris Carr, Garrett Wheat, and Chris Thedford; 2nd Team Offense: Waylon Whitley, Dylan Falcon, and Richard Barnes; 1st Team Defense: Zack Bryan and Hayden Langston; 2nd Team Defense: Dalton Davis, Justin Fountain, and Hunter Rawls; Honorable Mention: Harrison Brown, Rodney Fawcett, Tyler Walker, Taylor Walker, and Tommie Gesford. The team hopes to be as successful next season. "We are losing some good seniors, and we will be looking for some of our young players to step up. Next year will be very interesting. We will be young, but the talent is still here," said Johnson. "I am very excited about it."
Volleyball All District Awards
The Lady Dogs volleyball team displayed great talent this year when they advanced to the second round of the playoffs as well. They showed much diversity when players from three grade levels received awards; Defensive Player of the Year: sophomore Taylor Barker; 1st Team All-District: junior Treasure Jackson; 2nd Team All-District: senior Kara Standley; Honorable Mention All-District: seniors Kim Knighten, Lara McMillian, and sophomore Merrick Graham. The girls are looking forward to a successful season next year with most of their varsity starters returning.
On November 25, Colmesneil varsity boys basketball team played their season opener against the T-Cal Wolves from Nacogdoches. The Bulldogs displayed great teamwork throughout the game, and they ended on top with a score of 53-51. "It was not bad considering we had only one practice," said Coach Clint Stephens. Leaders of the game were Matt Bailey with 14 points, five rebounds, and three assists, followed by Cole Lowery with 12 points, 13 rebounds, and six free throws made, and Tyler Walker with 11 points, nine rebounds, two assists, and two free throws made.
The JV and Varsity boys will play again on Friday, December 6 against Zavalla beginning at 6 p.m. in Colmesneil.
