Three-arrested-in-raid

HILLISTER – Investigators with the Tyler County Sheriff's Office and the Texas Department of Public Safety confiscated over $17,000 in proceeds from a Hillister convenience store that officials say was engaging in illegal gambling.

Personnel from the two agencies executed a search warrant at the Lone Star Stop convenience store at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 20. The search came after months of undercover investigation by TCSO with the assistance of Chambers County Sheriff's Office and the DPS, according to a news release from Sheriff Bryan Weatherford.

The purpose of the warrant was to search and seize illegal gambling devices and proceeds. The warrant also called for the arrest of Muhammad Zulqarnain, Amanda Sheffield and Jessica Anderson (aka Jessica Foxworth). Zulqarnain, the store manager, was taken into custody at the scene. Sheffield and Anderson, employees who are accused of participating in the activities, were later located at residences in Tyler County and were taken into custody.

Investigators seized seven gambling machines and the money. All three are charged with Keeping a Gambling Place and Gambling Promotion, both Class A misdemeanors. Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Trisher Ford set a $6,000 bond on Zulqarnain. Anderson and Sheffield's bonds were set at $4,000 apiece.
